They tell the search engines about what we want to see. So, this post will be talking about the types of keywords and their importance in search engine optimization.

With keywords, Google and akin search engines give us the most accurate results for our searches. By inserting such keywords naturally in your content, you can enable your page to come on top of the result pages. 

To increase traffic to your website, it is necessary that you choose the right keywords. Research on the target audience, check keyword volumes, and try to opt for the most relevant ones. 

A thoughtful selection of keywords will help search engines find your content efficiently, making the task easier for the viewers.

Types of keywords

There are too many kinds of keywords. From those, the main ones that are most often used are:

  9. Intent targeting

Short-tail keywords

Are those having a length of 1-3 words? These have the highest volume of searches. Therefore, using these can increase competition for the same set of words. But Can be far more difficult to rank because of the high competition in most of the cases.

Long-Tail Keywords

In contrast to this, search phrases with words more than 3 are called long-tail keywords. They are more specific. Having lower search volumes, they have lesser competition as well as higher conversion rates. And these types of keywords can help you to get more traffic real easily. Short Term Fresh Keywords

Words related to recent trends fall under the category of short term fresh keywords. These do attract huge audiences when the search word is in fashion or trend. But be prepared to cope up with the drop as time passes. The Frozen movie had very high searches on the internet in 2013 while the searches have dropped to as low as 60,000 monthly searches in the United States.

Long Term Evergreen Keywords

Opposite to these are the long term evergreen keywords that never drop in search volumes. Such words help in maintaining SEO for a long period of time. It can be hard to rank the evergreen keywords, but once you are up, You will not need to put any efforts to keep it on the top. And These are considered the best types of keywords on the internet.

Product defining keyword

A product defining keyword is used to target customers who are at the initial stage of making a purchase. The searches searching for a particular product can get to you by this. So you must choose this description very carefully.

Here, Amazon has perfectly chosen the words to describe its product which is why it has ranked the first in the result page of women’s red t-shirt. This is an apt illustration of the product-specific keyword. 

Customer Defining keyword

Then there is the keyword that focuses on the customer. It is called a customer defining keyword. Defining the target audience is a must for this. As an illustration, online courses for children below 10 years (where children and below 10 years is the target audience).

Geo-targeting keywords

Geo-targeting keywords are those that are used for specific locations. Local businesses get the most benefit from these. These keywords are also used to target a specific country or a list of countries or cites or different places. Since these keywords may have different search volumes in different places or countries. So, these types of keywords must be chosen wisely.

LSI – (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords

Related keywords to the main keyword are LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords. Digital marketing, social media marketing, sales and marketing, content marketing for the main word marketing, for example. The LSI keywords also known as synonyms are also used to get rid of the keyword stuffing or fixing the keyword density in the On-Page SEO. And Also many of the link builders use LSI keywords instead of the main keyword to rank their keywords and get rid of the Google penalty.

Intent Targeting Keywords

Based on the user’s purpose of making the search the intent targeting keywords are used. What, how, when, why, who are markers for such keywords.

As a service provider, you want to come up when people search for categories of products you offer. When you are checking your SEO analytics, you must have noticed that some of your blogs or content ranks higher than the rest.

    Keywords research is the most important part as it helps to get the targeted audience to our websites.

    I found extra information here regarding keywords, like Intent Targeting keywords, etc.

    A new conception you have given about all types of keywords. Before reading this article, I was just re-known Short Tail and Long Tail keywords. But here 9 types available.

    When I go to research about keywords, first I go to the Google search. And I use subheadings also from google search. It works at all.
