The YouTube affiliate program is coming to India right before the festive season. The video-sharing platform will be collaborating with the e-commerce platform Flipkart and the e-commerce fashion platform, Myntra.

Although YouTube already allows select Indian creators to list their merchandise through their YouTube channels, the new announcement revealed that creators can now tag products talked about during videos, livestreams, and shorts. The collaboration with the Walmart-owned Flipkart and India’s biggest fashion retail site will increase the visibility of the products in their catalogue.

YouTube has stated that India has the biggest user base, counting more than 400 million users with over 110,00 channels. India also has over 100,00 subscribers. Ever since Shorts was introduced as a new video format in India back in 2020, Indians have viewed Shorts more than a trillion times. So the decision to bring in this affiliate program is certainly a wise decision on YouTube’s part.

YouTube Affiliate Program: More on this YouTube program

The YouTube affiliate program is available for creators residing in the U.S., South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. This program helps YouTube’s creators earn money through the platform while helping their audiences find or discover products. Channels are required to have more than 10,000 subscribers and they must be a part of the YouTube Partner Program. Channels that are ‘Made for Kids’ or with a high amount of videos targeted towards kids are also not applicable to join the program.

The company also collaborated with Shopify back in August this year, to give creators access to loads more products. New features such as allowing the platform’s creators to create new affiliate hubs and shopping collections were also introduced during that time.
