WordPress 6.6 ‘Dorsey’ Update and its Features

WordPress 6.6 is the latest update from the blogging site. The new update is also called ‘Dorsey’ which has been directly inspired by American trombonist and composer, Tommy Dorsey. 

The new update offers users easy-to-use and enhanced tools for a better site-building experience. The update has added more options for visual and design elements in the Site Editor. There have also been improvements in the performance and technical areas.

Users can create colour and font sets throughout a single theme to display more variation in the visual elements of the users’ page. Page previews can also be seen in a side-by-side layout in the Site Editor. 

New security measures have also been added. Users can auto-update their plugins through the safety of rollbacks. The Dorsey update has also removed WP_Theme_JSON, deleted redundant polyfill dependencies, and turned off autoload for large options. 

Other new features on WordPress comprise a recent data-wp-on-async directive, lazy-loading post embeds, and templates. The editor thus moves 35% faster than the previous versions. 

In addition, the new WordPress update has included around 58 engagements and accessibility fixes. The recent additions centre around areas such as the data views component and Inserter to work on patterns and blocks.
