Within a Month, Usage of Meta’s Threads App Dropped by 79%

Within a few days of its formal introduction, Threads had tremendous popularity and racked up over 100 million sign-ups. The initial level of user interaction on Threads by Instagram is difficult to sustain. A recent Similarweb analysis reveals a serious setback, with traffic dropping by an astounding 79% in just one month. This rapid reduction draws attention to a significant decline in user interaction and activity on the X (formerly Twitter) alternative.

The Threads Android app experienced a peak traffic of 49.3 million daily active users on July 7, which has since dropped to just 10.3 million daily active users, according to the research. In the US, the average amount of time spent on the site has similarly decreased, from 21 minutes per day to barely 3 minutes.

The Tremendous Growth of Threads

Comparatively, Threads’ modern X has more than 100 million active users who log on on average for about 25 minutes per day, indicating higher activity. Within a few days of its formal introduction, Threads had tremendous popularity and racked up over 100 million sign-ups. The platform was unable to support that volume of traffic, and since then, there has been a sharp reduction. 

Mark Zuckerberg noted in a series of remarks on the Threads social media site that the platform’s introduction received an unprecedented amount of attention. The business is now attempting to stabilize the platform by introducing new features and retaining its user base.

Chronological timelines, separate timelines for follower accounts, and other features have recently been added by the company. Almost every Fortnite, the company adds new features and functionalities to Threads, and Instagram Head Adam Mosseri also indicated that the company will soon introduce the web version of Threads.
