Tinder’s Photo Selector is the dating app’s latest update. This new feature is powered by AI and was hinted at last year by the company. It is currently only available for users in the United States but is expected to see its global release soon.
Photo Selector is a tool that attempts to choose photos that would work best on a user’s profile. This AI tool utilises technology relating to facial recognition and it was based on a diverse array of datasets to secure inclusion regarding various demographics. The AI tool also filters out inappropriate photos that violate Tinder’s guidelines.
Tinder’s Photo Selector: How Does it Work
Users have to grant Tinder access to their gallery and submit a profile picture with their face in it or take a selfie. After this, the AI tool goes through a photo selection process by looking through the user’s camera roll and selecting photos to be used as profile pictures.
Tinder keeps various elements in mind while selecting the profile pictures such as the composition and lighting. The Photo Selector also rejects group photos or photos that violate the app’s guidelines.
Users are then presented with the selected pictures, which they will have to choose as their profile picture.
Tinder has stated that it does not collect or store any of the biometrics received from the users. All biometric data will thus be removed upon the exit of the Photo Selector.
