TIDAL’s integration with Plex will be ending on October 28, 2024. Users who have depended on Plex to access TIDAL’s music may have to look for other alternatives as this music streaming service will no longer be available through Plex.
Plex officially integrated with TIDAL back in 2018. This allowed users to link their TIDAL account to Plex. Additionally, people could also subscribe to TIDAL as a bundle pack with Plex Pass. Users could thus look for songs and play them as well as organise them from TIDAL all within Plex. They could also combine their catalogue from TIDAL with their music library from other sources.
TIDAL’s integration with Plex was supported through various platforms and devices including iPhone, iPad, Roku, Android and more.
TIDAL’s Integration With Plex: More on this closure
Plex’s music section would preview TIDAL as a service regardless of whether the Plex user was subscribed to TIDAL. Plex will no longer be renweing TIDAL subscirbtions Septermber 26 onwards. TIDAL will send an email instructing users on how to make a new subscription that can work with TIDAL’s app. It has been noticed that Plex has halted attracting new TIDAL subscriptions.
Plex has mentioned that as long as a user’s TIDAL subscription is running, then their Plex-linked TIDAL account can still be used within Plex up until the date of closure. After which, users can no longer access TIDAL through Plex.
The reason behind ending TIDAL’s integration with Plex has not been stated. However, some speculate that TIDAL may want people to subscribe to their service directly. The music streaming platform may have wanted to stop offering its features through other platforms. Thus, TIDAL may seek the amount of paid subscribers directly through the TIDAL app.
