Spotify lyrics will now be available for its free users once again. Spotify Free users are mostly relieved after this reversal as this feature was originally available in the free version of Spotify. Putting the lyrics feature behind a paywall was a decision met with much discontentment by the music app’s user base.
A spokesperson from Spotify has stated that the company will make Lyrics available for all its users regardless of which version they are using. Thus, the Lyrics feature can be enjoyed by even more people. The reversal is expected to take full effect in the coming weeks.
Spotify Lyrics: When Lyric Paywall Happened
The music streaming app put lyrics behind a paywall earlier in May in an attempt to drive Spotify Free users to buy into their subscription plans. Users were only allowed to access three song lyrics per month and the public did not respond well to this. Additionally, the company had increased the premium subscription price to $11.99 when it was previously only $10.99 back in June.
Spotify has not made any official statements on why it decided to bring the feature back. However, the company saw the amount of backlash they were receiving which might be the cause for the reversal.
