SearchGPT has been announced by OpenAI and the service is currently undergoing testing. With this announcement, OpenAI gears up to compete against the search engine giant, Google and other competitors such as Bing and Perplexity.
The upcoming service is currently at the testing stages as a prototype and has been rumoured about its development since February 2024. There are no release dates out yet for the AI-powered search engine. However, interested individuals can sign up for the waitlist for the beta versions.
SearchGPT and its features
Users will be provided with fast responses with information that is relevant and up to date. It also provides links to the sources of the information. Furthermore, users can also ask follow-up questions to the AI search engine and the context from the previous questions is used.
The search engine is developed to assist users in connecting with various publishers through a linking and citing system. The responses provided are clear with citations and links and additional information can be accessed in the sidebar. SearchGpt aims to provide a booming environment for creators and publishers. OpenAI has also stated that publishers can choose not to include their work to train its models, yet still show up on the search results.

OpenAI’s AI search engine will be powered by GPT-3.5, GPT-4 and GPT-4o. The company expects to integrate SearchGPT’s features into ChatGPT later on.
