Passkeys Support for Android on X Has Been Launched

Passkeys started rolling out on Android in X, months after the feature was first released in April on X’s iOS version.

Users can turn on the passkeys feature by going to their Settings and Privacy option and clicking on the Security and Account Access option. After this, users have to tap on the Security option, choose the Additional Password Protection tab, and select Passkey. Users will lastly click on Add a Passkey and follow the procedures needed to turn the Passkey feature on.

X now joins other big companies who have introduced the Passkeys feature including Amazon, Google, Apple, Titktok, and more. Bringing Passkeys to X serves as an alternative for those users who depend on the SMS Two Factor Authentication, which was available for all users up until 2023. It has now been limited only to the X’s Premium subscribers.

Passkeys and Why They Are Useful

In general, passkeys are a faster way to sign into accounts. Instead of manually typing in a password, users can store their passkey in the server which can only be accessed through a PIN, fingerprint, Face ID or other forms of physical authentication.

Passkeys are very convenient as users do not need to memorise or remember the passkey. Furthermore, they are much more secure than passwords. Thus it makes the users less susceptible to threats and other security concerns.
