Google password glitch has temporarily lost the passwords of over 15 million Windows users which has raised cause for concern over the company’s security.
This password glitch which occurred on July 24, was potentially caused by bugs that resided in a software update. Chrome’s password manager might have been affected by the update’s bugs. As a result of these bugs, users all over the world are experiencing difficulties with retrieving their passwords stored in Chrome’s Password Manager. Additionally, users were unable to log into their social media accounts, emails and more.
It has been estimated that more than 25% of Chrome users were facing difficulties. 15 million people worldwide were unable to view their new and old saved passwords. The outage lasted over 18 hours until Google finally resolved the issue. Google has also stated that this issue affected only the M127 version of Chrome on Windows.
Google Password Glitch Official Response
The tech giant has extended its apologies for the inconvenience caused. They were quick to fix the issues and advised users to restart their Chrome browsers. This solved the issue for some users but did not help a majority of users as they were still dealing with the same problems.
The company has also directed users who are experiencing worse problems as a result of the glitch to seek Google’s Workspace Support for assistance.
