Google has announced a new Utilities extension for its Gemini AI assistant, improving Android device interoperability. Previously announced at Google I/O, this capability allows Gemini to handle a variety of smartphone functions.
Gemini was previously unable to do critical activities such as setting alarms, timers, and operating the camera. Users have to rely on Google AI Assistant or some software extensions. Gemini can now manage these device-related chores thanks to the new Utilities plugin.
To use the Utilities extension, establish Gemini as your Android device’s default assistant. It is currently only available in English; other languages are not yet supported. The feature is being gradually rolled out, and it could take weeks before it is available to all users.
The expansion enables Gemini to handle a wide range of jobs, including:
One of the primary aspects of the Utilities extension is its ability to do several activities with a single natural language command. Users can, for example, request that Gemini set an alarm, enable DND mode, and open a website all at once. This streamlined experience greatly enhances user interaction.
The Gemini AI assistant’s new Utilities module improves usability by allowing seamless control of Android device functionalities. The distribution is currently underway, and users should expect further capabilities as the extension becomes generally available.
