Apple Intelligence, the tool designed to increase your iPhone's AI capabilities, is becoming a major storage eater. Initially launched in September 2024, it required only 4GB of available space. However, four months later, storage consumption has nearly doubled, taking up 7GB of your device's storage. Users are concerned about the growth in space consumption, as they find their gadgets running out of space.
While Apple promotes on-device processing as a privacy feature, there is a catch. The corporation still analyzes your images and other content to train its AI, which may cause privacy worries for some users. Furthermore, each new update to Apple Intelligence consumes more storage, leaving less space for other programs and data. With plans to redesign Siri and incorporate AI into future upgrades, this storage creep is expected to continue.
The lack of enthusiasm for Apple Intelligence features makes things even more annoying. According to a recent SellCell poll, 73% of iPhone owners who used the AI feature reported that it offered "little to no value" to their smartphone experience. Despite the increased storage use, many users do not believe the functionality is attractive enough to justify the growing footprint.
In addition to storage difficulties, there have been allegations of increasing battery drain due to Apple Intelligence operations. The combination of excessive storage utilization and battery drain has many iPhone users wondering if the function is worth it.
As Apple continues to improve its AI-powered tools, it remains to be seen whether these capabilities will become something people desire to interact with. For the time being, Apple Intelligence appears to be more concerned with presenting erroneous summaries of news stories than with bringing genuine, useful benefits. This, combined with increased storage utilization and potential battery drain, has many users questioning whether the trade-offs are worthwhile.
To summarize, Apple Intelligence may continue to use more storage and battery life without providing the promised value. The next few upgrades will decide whether this AI function is worth the storage sacrifice.
