The world seems to be in controversy of Gutenberg with the WordPress community. We all are familiar with the WordPress websites and it has launched its latest version 5.0 changing the biggest platform the WordPress developers have ever seen. The longtime users of WordPress will definitely see a notice in this new version as the Gutenberg from the WordPress development company by adding a new experience to the content editing like never before.

What is Gutenberg?

Gutenberg is the new and modernized version of the native WordPress CMS development that functions as a page builder to make it easy and create visually more complicated layouts. The editor is however nowhere near as powerful as full-fledged page builder themes or plugins like Divi, Beaver Builder or Elementor, yet it is a big improvement to the old editor. The WordPress development community has decided to include all WordPress updates and installments from version 5.0 and have introduced a Gutenberg plugin for the users using the older versions.

Allows website developers to create and build a website using the blocks which are small drag and drop units by replacing the current inconsistent and distracting customization process. Gutenberg allows the editor to enable HTML tags like section and figure the output at the time of writing with the help of a plugin. I will recommend you to take a look at this post “WordPress Gutenberg editor: Pros and cons discussed“.

How Does This Impact Your Website?

  • Make Media-Rich Content Easier

Media-rich content is defined as the one that encourages viewers to interact and engage the people by video, audio or other elements. This has a serious impact on the time spent by each visitor on your web pages. In the upcoming days, media-rich content will increase continuously for getting attention span of the average customer.

  • Organized Content in Block Format

Blocks are considered as the new way of adding content to your pages and posts by including headings, paragraphs, images, and shortcodes. Through the editor, you can also add a variety of content such as tables, Twitter, audio and columns. It is also flexible to insert any block on a page or moves it around. It becomes easy for the viewers to view your webpage in a completely organized manner.

  • Get a new Workflow

Even trying on to a different type of a computer can feel new and feel completely lost. Same is the scenario with the Gutenberg users for the first time as it has changed the entire philosophy of the user interface. The formatting controls have moved far as of your plugin and widget settings while transitioning to content as multiple movable blocks can be considered a big change that will come with a learning curve for some users.

  • Render some Unusable Plugins

It is estimated that most major plugin developers are primed and ready for Gutenberg’s launch but sometimes it might happen that even developers who want to update their software for supporting Gutenberg are not ready on time. The updates take work to develop as not every developer is regularly working on their plugins. Some plugins have appropriate settings available on the post editing page which may disappear, break or have reduced functionalities until updated for Gutenberg. If you are not satisfied with WordPress update, you can still continue to use WordPress classic editor.

  • Increases Productivity

Gutenberg will eventually increase your productivity if you do not write your content in HTML. The editor comes up with many formatting options which helps the users to make changes easily and immediately and also rearranges your content. It also allows to paste your content into the editor if you have written your content offline and then added to WordPress. Later, it can be converted into blocks. All you need to add a classic block and paste your entire post, then convert to blocks by making any changes as per the need.

  • Reduce the learning curve

Whether launching new websites for clients on WordPress or something else, the web is not always as simple as we would like. Gutenberg is designed to help reduce the learning curve by composting a blog post through WordPress. The new release comes with the pre-formatted block types like a paragraph, heading, list, gallery, cover image, and even page breaks or text columns. Along with this, it also has the drag and drops functionality for rearranging blocks, individual formatting for every block and default color options for text as well as the background.

  • Adding Widgets

Widgets blocks allow you to add an archive or categories to the latest posts and also adds comments with just a click anywhere on the page. With the Latest Post element, it allows you to show posts in a grid or list view by organizing them in categories and order alphabetically or according to the latest date. Also, you can embed using these blocks if you want to add a YouTube or Twitter link. To improve the usability, the developers are given the choice of reusable blocks which can convert any block to use it in a different location.

  • Business-Oriented

The advantage of using an open source content management system is the speed it can be customized and iterated, where rapid platform updates can also create confusions if not planned and executed well. A lot of enterprise level WordPress websites are out there but ultimately Gutenberg can be considered smart editor as well as upgraded technology in any industry.

So, the businesses need to stop worrying about the website and if planned accordingly, the Gutenberg helps to function smoothly. To begin with its new features, it is a safe assumption to say that almost all existing custom themes and templates need updating. The organization will most likely need to keep this feature turned off until formal testing of the fully released product to get better accomplishments.

 Live Website

WordPress is powering too many websites around the globe with known CMS. So, if you too own a WordPress website, you must be wondering what will happen to your website after Gutenberg editor? With the new release of version 5.0 integrating with Gutenberg, the only major change is in the editor and nothing more. Hence, you are not required to change your theme or buy a new one. It sounds like a relief for the live website owners as they don’t require a single new purchasing plugin or any enhancement to their current site.

Conclusion

Gutenberg has been the talk of the town since its release. It is very easy to learn and use as no technical skills are required to make a custom layout for your blog, post or website. So, people only have to look for the kind of style which allows editing at user-experience level. Without replying much on TinyMCE, it creates a consistent and advanced design by developing blocks. Blocks are worthy to say an excellent concept where they allow non-developers to craft their own complex layouts.

Gutenberg also response great on mobile devices as it allows to make quick edits on the go. Hardcore developers can create customized reusable blocks using HTML5 which also comes with increased screen space proving to be less distracting for many developers. We can conclude from the above-listed reasons how well the Gutenberg is going to impact our WordPress websites to get operated efficiently.

  1. Hi Vanessa,

You have shared a wonderful piece of information. It is so important to stay updated with the latest updates in WordPress platform.

Thanks for sharing, have a good day.

  2. No doubt in it that, Gutenberg provides quite good user-interface. But, still, bloggers are skeptical about it. Means, still, bloggers prefer classic editor. Personally, I have disabled it and using the classic editor. I have done a survey about it in one blogging related group. And, bloggers are quite annoyed with this new editor. Because, I think, they don’t know, how to use it. So, I think you should write an article about it’s the feature and new user interface.
